On Saturday, May 24, MarcB IT hit the streets of Tarrytown, New York, in Westchester County, to help a client resolve Chromebook and sound bar issues — and by the end of the visit, I received my very first business payment via QuickBooks integration with my website.
A glorious day indeed — and a meaningful opportunity to help someone with their tech needs.
Maggie, the client, lives in an apartment building with a beautiful view of the Hudson River. She recently ordered a new Chromebook through Amazon and needed help setting it up so she could stay in touch with family and friends via Gmail.
?? Step One: Logging In and Connecting
The first challenge was confirming her Gmail password. I walked her through accessing her Google Password Manager, and once we found the correct password, she successfully logged in.
Since she also uses a Google Smart TV, I helped ensure she could access her Gmail account there too — and log back into her favorite apps, like Max.
? Step Two: Sound Bar Setup
Next, I helped set up her new sound bar. It didn’t use an HDMI port — instead, it relied on an optical cable connection. While optical audio doesn’t support some of the newer, higher-quality formats like Dolby TrueHD, it’s still a solid choice — and often more resistant to interference than HDMI ARC in certain setups.
Once connected, the sound came through clearly and at a volume Maggie was happy with.
This was more than a simple install — it was about making sure someone could stay connected and enjoy their tech without frustration. And for me, it was an important milestone:
? First client
? First field visit
? First invoice
? First payment
MarcB IT is officially in motion
As I continue to grow MarcB IT — through Google Ads, blog posts, street fair prep, and good old-fashioned word of mouth — I’m excited to keep doing what I love: solving tech problems and helping people stay productive.
If you’re in Westchester, Rockland, or even New York City and need friendly, in-person tech support, I’d be honored to help.
