Made it to Maine and Back on that Train

Passengers boarding the Amtrak Downeaster train at a busy station platform

Go in one direction to Maine via Amtrak, come back to New York via Amtrak again! Amtrak has been in the news lately as its CEO, Stephen Gardner, abruptly resigned. News reports saying he was forced out by the Trump administration. And Musk reportedly said recently that Amtrak should be privatized. But Amtrak hit back, saying which private railroad could operate not just the Northeast Corridor but the entire national network without federal government assistance.

I’ll just keep trucking on, or railroading on as that is a preferred mode of transportation these days.

I mean you can’t beat boarding a train in Westchester County in New York and traveling all the way to Portland, Maine. It actually could be a one-seat ride if Boston decides to build a rail link between South Station and North Station. It’s amazing it still hasn’t been built.

But such is the state of affairs. My four-day weekend in Portland, Maine is winding down, as I board an 8:00 AM sharp Downeaster back to Boston and then a Northeast Regional to Westchester.

Yesterday up here it was in the high 50s’ temp wise but then today a sudden drop. So taking a break from the cold at moment to write and then studying Google Ads. I’m running a Google Ads campaign for MarcB IT and a Google ads specialist I spoke to last week was just wonderful explaining the different features of the platform.

Features like which type of campaign to run, keywords to use and the cost-per-click daily budget. But I still ordered a Google Ads workbook by author Jason McDonald to enhance and supplement the training.

Started the day early at the ol’ stomping ground of Becky’s Diner, an icon in Portland, at 7:00 AM this morning. Fresh coffee, ham and eggs and then it was time to get to work while on vacation.

Running a Google Ads campaign enables you to view the different features in real-time. My WordPress site, this one, is seeing more traffic while I’m promoting MarcB IT.

I used to operate a small video production outfit solo but it was a lot of work. Schlepping video equipment in the field, them filming and interviewing, and then schlepping back to edit all the video down to a two-minute segment, all before midnight.

I was a former network administrator and so getting back into Information Technology is seamless. But it’s interesting to be able to promote a business online utilizing Google’s formidable search tools. So that’s why I’m eager to learn and them optimize Google Ads. I completed a digital marketing program last year and we learned the basics of the platform but you really need to combine real-world campaigns enhanced by training.

So it’s the last full day in Maine, but there’s still time to order a large New England clam chowder at Gilbert’s House before closing out the trip.

But then it’s right back on Amtrak next weekend, this time heading south to Baltimore and then renting a car to visit the hallowed battlefield of Gettysburg.
