It’s official. On Friday I passed the CompTIA A+ Core 2 exam, thus earning full-fledged CompTIA A+ certification.
Two months of rigorous study and retaking multiple practice exams paid off! Onward now to additional certifications such as Network+, Server+ and Security+. Whether its from the Windows command line or Control Panel, I’m troubleshooting a variety of computer and networking issues.
My IT journey began as a student in 2001 at the now defunct The Chubb Institute, followed by a three-year stint as a network administrator for a credit union in New Jersey.
But then I moved to New York City and pursued an excellent journalistic opportunity whereby I invested in video production hardware and software to complement and enhance my overall storytelling.
I had the chance to interview a variety of elected officials and non-profit leaders, most notably former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is now running to be New York City’s next mayor.
But the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic just decimated the advertising platforms that small publishers relied on, so I’m pursuing again the Information Technology sector as I have a variety of technical know-how skills to maintain servers and troubleshoot desktops.
When I was configuring my SOHO network there were quite a few issues that required immediate resolution, such as ensuring that all domain users on the network have access to shared resources and also confirming that a Linux Ubuntu virtual machine could resolve DNS queries successfully.

Acquiring a Windows Server 2022 license has proven exceptional because rather than the network’s PCs operating within a workgroup they can all join a domain, and domain networking provides an abundance of troubleshooting opportunities that otherwise would be hard to replicate on a SOHO network.
And a Windows Server will go a long way with passing the Network+ and Server+ exams!
