I was hoping a recent inquiry would lead to another MarcB IT service call this past week — especially after I spent a couple of hours researching PC options for someone looking to buy two new Windows 11-based desktops. But in the end, he decided to pursue other options.
So, with an unexpectedly free weekend, I decided to take a short jaunt up to Greenwood Lake in Orange County, New York.
It’s a wonderful place — one I had overlooked for many years until my wife and I first visited last summer. We stayed at the New Continental Hotel & Restaurant, a charming lakeside spot with a unique vibe. Originally opened in 1923, the hotel still carries a distinct 1960s atmosphere — almost like stepping into a time warp, in the best way.
What I really appreciate about Greenwood Lake is the sense of continuity. Many of the businesses here — restaurants, boat rentals, small shops — are still run by the same families who founded them decades ago. There’s something comforting about that kind of local heritage.
It’s been relaxing to stay here and go mostly offline. This morning, with thunder rolling overhead, I found myself writing this post while looking out over the lake from the patio — a great setting for reflection.
Even though I have to work today for my full-time role with the Appalachian Mountain Club, I carved out a couple of hours to check in on my Google Ads performance (which seems to be humming along nicely) and think ahead for MarcB IT.
One thing on my mind: returning to video storytelling.
I’m planning to start experimenting with short video clips for my website, social media, and Google Business Profile. I’ve done stand-up commentary in the past, and I think I can bring that personal, conversational style to tech content. The idea is to produce a short 30-second video this week to test both the format and whether it’s engaging enough for an audience.
Video can be a powerful tool — but it has to be tight, relevant, and quick to get to the point. The plan is to launch a few short clips, analyze the response, and determine whether this medium can help bring in more inquiries for MarcB IT services.
Stay tuned — and if you’re ever looking for a peaceful spot not far from NYC, Greenwood Lake might be worth your visit.
