When I launched MarcB IT, I knew I’d be up against serious competition — from national names like Best Buy to established IT shops in Westchester. But I also knew something else: when people need help with their tech, they often want to work with someone local and trustworthy.
I know a thing or two about hyperlocal. Before starting MarcB IT, I worked as a news reporter on Manhattan’s East Side, covering everything from community board meetings to “Clean Up Your Neighborhood Day” events hosted by local street associations.
Election seasons were especially busy — I’d interview candidates on camera at community events to hear their positions on neighborhood issues. Those events mattered. Voters told me they paid close attention to which candidates actually showed up.
One of those candidates, Julie Menin, ended up winning the City Council seat for District 5 in 2022 — and I believe she won reelection last year.
Now I’m back in the tech world, and it’s a different game. During my time reporting, I never thought about running a Google Ads campaign. But after enrolling in a digital marketing program at Columbia University last year, I saw just how effective targeted ads could be.
And it’s working. I’ve already fielded multiple requests from local clients for help with everything from computer tune-ups to Chromebook setup.
In addition to running digital ads, I also go grassroots — posting flyers in community spaces and advertising in local publications like the Beth-El Synagogue’s monthly newsletter, which reaches nearly 1,000 members.
Sure, Westchester has no shortage of IT service providers — but MarcB IT brings something unique:
- Personal, in-home tech support
- Transparent pricing
- A focus on building relationships, not just fixing machines
- A community-first approach: street fairs, chambers of commerce, and showing up
