Back from Repair: My Samsung Laptop

Last week, I posted a tale about how, after extensive troubleshooting, I had to ship my Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge to Samsung for repair — all because the battery icon in the taskbar suddenly disappeared. In the meantime, I relied on another workhorse of a machine: my MacBook Pro.

My Samsung returned yesterday, and I’m writing this new post on the Galaxy Book4 Edge. According to Samsung’s repair statement, the issue stemmed from a missing BIOS update. The fix? Installing BIOS Version 061 — which restored battery detection and communication with the operating system.

At first, I wondered: couldn’t I have just installed the BIOS update myself? Technically yes — it’s available on Samsung’s website. But I’m ultimately glad I sent it in. The service team likely ran diagnostics, verified firmware settings, and ensured proper battery telemetry was restored.

? Real-World Comparison: Samsung vs MacBook Pro

During those five days without my Samsung, I was fully back on the Mac — and one thing immediately stood out: the battery life on the MacBook Pro is superb.

As I traveled to client locations, it was incredibly reassuring not to worry about finding an outlet. The MacBook just lasts — making it perfect for field work like email, research, updating my Google Ads campaigns, and managing my website in WordPress.

That’s not to say I’m abandoning the Samsung. In fact, this week I used it during a client visit to run the Epson Adjustment Program for an ET-8550 printer — a Windows-only tool essential for diagnosing electrical faults.

Still, for many day-to-day tasks, I’m increasingly leaning toward the MacBook Pro. Especially after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.5, I’ve been exploring Apple’s new AI features under “Apple Intelligence” — and it’s been fun to test out.

? A Flexible Setup

At home, my network includes three PCs connected to one monitor via a KVM switch — all sitting atop my trusty UPLIFT Desk. But when I work from another room, I like setting up with my CSG m106 pro mobile hotspot (courtesy of Verizon). It features an Ethernet port, so I can plug in directly using CAT5 or CAT6 — fast, stable, and portable.

Conclusion:
The Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge is back and running strong — but it’s got some serious competition now. The MacBook Pro has proven it’s more than just a backup — it may be my new go-to for much of my day-to-day work.
